This is clearly bullshit. I hate it when mystery authors pull out baseless twists from thin air for progression. There was no way Mahi could tell these two were dating, there was no indication at all!
It is outlandish to even assume that. This is Kindaichi level crap where he always finds the clue off-screen and reveals it in the conclusion.
Let's see how the author handles this mystery solving next time.

(For legal reasons this is a joke, maybe a bad one, but still one.
And I do hate how Kindaichi handled the cases, because Animax used to advertise it as "Can you solve the mystery?", but the reveal always had a clue that was never shown during the episode)
