i dont understand why people think the barrier is useless, although it did keep the monster away
but there are so many useful for it, such as protecting VIP from attack, even if the barrier may be weak it can protect from ambush, allowing time for a bodyguard to react... adding element to barrier such as cold to keep food cold like fridge while traveling etc
