If I had to guess, his mother is some short of half elf that has no visible elf characteristics(perhaps she is the child or grandchild of a half-elf).
And this elf is some kind of great-great-etc-grandmother to the MC.

I read a bit of the web novel, his mother is far from weak, she's actually a extremely skilled fighter in her own right, when she finds out that the king intended to assassinate him, she goes and teaches him a lesson, she's actually the legitimate queen if i remember right and strong enough to overthrow the king if he pisses her off too much as she has the backing of some of the most powerful people in the country.
Basically the king tried to get rid of the mc without the mom knowing, i don't know how the mom found out (i have a feeling the assassin maid might have switched sides but this is a guess) but when she did she went on a hell tear against him, i can't remember why i he's still in power, i think it's because it's more efficient in her search for the mc, but not sure.

Releasing monsters in middle of towns is nothing new in fantasy fiction.
An old example of it would be the Festival of the Hunt in FF9.

i kinda figured that was the case because in earlier chapters the maid looked like she genuinely cared about mc (there was no hints of hatred or apathy that was shown to us like they usually do with these characters).

so her being actually a psychopath makes a lot of sense that or she is the best actor ever.

Might be a translation/writing mistake or something because she looks nothing like his mother and quite a bit like his maid.
So I'm gonna guess she's the maid's sister.

Edit: Nvm I checked the novel and she is supposed to look like his mother despite the different race and hair color, so maybe it's the artist that got them confused because she really does look more like the maid.

She was introduced right after he left the forest for the first time.
