I mean they also dislike 'darker skin' to where being gyaru is considered counter culture tho that's a whole nother can of worms (even tho these days there are some popular gyaru series, tho not ever 'gal' is also tanned). but i'd imagine it'd make some ppl feel insecure and emasculated

It's a completely separate culture with views that can feel kinda weird to westerners to an extent.
I've also seen in few interviews mention guys that Japan looks weird at people who work out in gyms to bodybuild. As in "you have time to bodybuild => you are too self-centered and should focus on your company more". Yes, it's weird and these Japanese guys find it weird too. But it changes only very slowly.
