i think this is and that one earlier shows that while Raoul indeed is giong aruond been a incredible cruel man to the one who is his targerts you can see that deep down hes still...well human. despite everytihng Bernand has done Raoul let him go thx to his sister. Bernand will still die of thirst and hunger eventually but unlike the others due to his sisters feelings Raoul kinda.... letting him off easier lol

I guess that's also a form of revenge. He is going to die tortured by the fact that he let the one person who understood him and cared for him sincerely die and betrayed her.

That after all that he has done while his wife was alive, she knew and has forgiven him. The guilt and the pain from losing someone like that and even betraying that trust and devotion. I can see it as a form of torture. Plus he is going to die because he'll keep on uselessly apologizing and die without food and water.

Raoul's sister was actually an angel. Oh my god.
The amount of respect he has for her to even consider not taking revenge on someone his sister cared about but ultimately betrayed. Fuck this shit is heavy.

It is a cruel mercy he did show him there. he is in no way lentient to him. he is literally letting him suffer heavy guilt and fear. everyone who did try this.. knows it is NOT a fun thing to feel like that.. so looping it forever or until he dies..it is a living HELL.
A quick death is preferable over this.

Yeah, this was one of the brief moments of actual pathos I’ve felt while reading this.
