I don't think any author would ever admit to doing a bullshit retcon like this. Usually when you're going for a plot twist like that, you at least give small hints beforehand that, in this case, Victoria was being manipulated. Unless people found out those hints and I'm unaware of them, yeah, I'll make of what I will.

Meanwhile reread chapter 1

There are some things that come up for this that make an interesting note. Her eyes look sleep deprived and exhausted, she does not remember Raul seemingly, and the constant quote “bless her highness the princess.”

There’s also the emphasis that both of them refer to each other as pawns and puppets of a stage play. Her nature is almost similar to that of Raul yet the dark aspect of his abilities were sealed until he died. She even notes her frustration at not being able to kill other people she deemed equivalent to a curse. Her obsession with Raul upon her second meeting was unnatural as well, though that could be said to be caused by the goddess of love.

One last note on this. When you look at aspects the goddess of war has similarities with Raul and the goddess of love has similarities with Victoria. The two are also interchangeable with their goals. Peace and love vs war and hatred.

The price will definitely lead towards her warped nature the question is what the nature of the price and why the gods were obsessed with her in particular.

You might be onto something, I still can't really get over the fact that this "god" looks similar to one of the forms Raul took on. We'll see, at this point I just want to see what the fuck the author is cooking.

And you're forgetting that they explicitly stated that if she hadn't already had such thoughts that the Goddess wouldn't have been able to take her over and do so.

In summary:

I mean the goddess of love works under the concept of turning people’s feelings into their most extreme uncontrolled versions.

She definitely liked raoul before the goddess of love but the goddess twisted her feelings to lust.

Plus, the Saintess in the chapter this is revealed specifically whispers these things to her while she’s sedated to twist her affection to dominating raoul. She’s very much not guilty of anything there.

She got manipulated and tortured from childhood by her own father and an actual god. Kids don't get to choose who raises them or what they're taught is right. Someone groomed from birth isn't the same as an adult who had options and chose cruelty anyway. Monsters aren't born, they're made.

Yet again, not everyone can forgive a murderer because the have a sad past, would you forgive a person who killed your sister if he told you he was manipulated into doing so?
