If he knew about his wife killing his father, his color should not have been valid for Raoul, maybe Raoul's judging is flawed and hypocritical since he takes revenge from someone but lives for revenge himself.

It is a more interesting wrinkle to why he became tainted then I expected. I had part of it but yeah he continues to put blame on everyone else and not see his own failings. Would he have been fine if he never learned her crimes? Would he have only resented MC in that case? It just might have taken him longer to become completely tainted. I feel bad for the kids.

Ah, but here's the potential for tragedy you're missing. Alex also had mostly pure soul, but the taint stewed in paradise until he got corrupted. Who can say that children won't start going down the wrong path after seeing both of their parents taken away from them?
Their parents effectively abandoned them right in front of their eyes. They even made the conscious decision to move away from their father. I don't know about that one, chief.

He probably got judged before his wife so it was pure, but the moment he heard the truth it became tainted. Raoul likely already knew this, but chose not to reevaluate him for the sake of his kids (and probably because he knew it'd get worse and he'd get to have some fun with him)
What "fun" did he have with this guy? Being disappointed that someone else ended up like him when he still had reasons to live for?

If he knew about his wife killing his father, his color should not have been valid for Raoul, maybe Raoul's judging is flawed and hypocritical since he takes revenge from someone but lives for revenge himself.
Sounds more like Raoul was giving him a chance to overcome, for the sake of the children. But hey, I could be wrong.

Hm...I knew it wasn't that simple. Turns out it's something that even alot of people can probably relate to. This is a common type of closet narcissism, especially in families with pre-existing problems.

But to me there's still one more mystery....why? What was this brief interlude for? Frankly speaking, while people like this often benefit from professional help, this type of condition is an avoidable choice. The way the chapter presents it...it feels like there's an inevitability to it. Not only that, it seems to simultaneously imply that people with good intentions can cause others to gain black hearts, and in turn black hearts cause more black hearts. What does that mean for Raoul's paradise? Even if it's kept "clean", it's ultimately unsustainable?

Maybe I'm thinking too much about it, and the author just wants to show how he's managing this paradise. But it still seems odd to have this brief cut.

Edit: On second thought, Raoul does point out he knew about the wife, and he also brought him here on account of the children. That means he was giving him a chance...to make the right choice. And Raoul knew he had the pre-existing potential for taint. So I was initially wrong, this chapter does acknowledge that this is based on choice. The guy failed. If that's what the chapter was going for, then it makes sense to have this.

kind of happy that it was petty revenge from a self-absorbed man and not the other possibilities that surfaced in the previous chapter discussion

Well, this is a tragedy. MC has always seemed fairly protective of children. Even when it came to destroying that one village, he only made the adults think he killed the children, but he actually gave them a chance to survive.

Okay, that wasn't clear why Alex wished to go back until the reveal, because it seemed like he wished to return for the sake of his wife... not "revenge" for his wife murder he pushed onto her.

Recap time then.

Rose, Alex with their children are living with Alex bedridden father who's illness drained the little income Alex made.
Unable to choose, Alex pushed the hard decision on Rose to kill his father, she chosen a way to save the four of them but took her father-in-law life to look like he passed away "naturally"...

Concluding. Yes, Rose commited a murder but she was under the wall, either let them all starve and die, abandon father-in-law in the woods where he would die of starvation or kill him in mercifully way, but as Alex didn't have guts to pull it end his life quickly (arguably, that's very hard thing to do to own family members, especially parents), had to unfortunately kill father-in-law more painful death than quick but obvious to Alex.

Rose soul shouldn't technically be tainted IMHO... think Raul fucked up the judgment here, if he knew the reason why she killed Alex father.

Thanks for the scanlation!

Oh damn. I felt so bad for this dude when I skimmed the raws but now I’m glad he’s gone. The man was a coward who tried to drag everyone else down just so he wouldn’t get sent back alone, just So he’d have a chance of revenge against his wife. He tried to kill his kids just for that

it’s still unclear how tainted a soul can get before they’re cast out but this dude tried to force everyone into a suicide pact. He full on tried to kill his own children. Even if the old gods would judge the kids for abandoning him, there’s no way Mc would. Definitely hope we see them again soon. Maybe ma will adopt them and they’ll be the cowards siblings. Heck, trying to be a good older brother might be just what he needs to grow a spine
For sure Raoul wouldn't judge them, but the thing is...if that hatred of being betrayed and almost killed by their own father, the person who was supposed to keep them safe, was to slowly make their souls dark....at that point, I don't think Raoul would spare them.
Considering that possibility would make them much like him, as we saw that Raoul wasn't so naive as he was depicted in the beginning, he could ban them from paradise only to take them under his wing....
But it's Raoul we're talking about...dude's kinda unpredictable

I wonder if when you return to the surface you can get another chance to come back up if you survive

My only question is what about redemption? If you go completely dark can you go light? Since you can go from light to dark

The hoomans in this are kind of nutty. Its like one minute they're decent or even pure in a sense then in the next fucking psychopaths. Another thing is sometime people develop problems no matter the cause, if that happens its just fuck em and send em away lol. Might not be so cut and dry if this has a novel or something

Boy, am I glad that the alternative didn't happen and he was implied to have pulled a hillbilly diddy on his daughters because they looked like his wife.

He was just a crazy loon who couldn't let go.

It could be self-hatred and negative emotions that come from that which would blacken their soul. The self-loathing and the inability to let go.

Well yeah, but is that really a bad thing since Rose regretted it and knew Alex pushed it on her to make the decision, she knew he wasn't able to do it and done regrettable thing to save herself, him and their children.
