Lets be real, had this been a real situation then that “I dont know” answer would kill their relationship

Sure if it was a different situation they would have reacted differently to things, but in this specific situation, her breaking up with the kouhai she's been obsessed with because the kouhai admitted she didn't know why she asked the senpai out when it was clear to both kouhai asked her out on a whim would be ridiculous.
