I'm used to miscommunication in manga but this one is more frustrating than most. They are constantly walking on eggshells around each other with how they're afraid of broaching any topic that's even slightly inconvenient for the other person.
But that's also not too unusual for a first relationship. In time, you learn that a good partner is someone you can bare your soul to and will be there with you through both the fun times and the difficult ones. "In sickness and in health" and all that jazz.

I think more so, it's really not surprising considering the nature of their relationship. They're not really dating 'for real'. In Kaede's mind, she's simply a stand-in for anyone that could help Moko discover herself. And in Moko's mind, she's only valuable to Kaede as an object of affection. In their twisted view of their own relationship, bringing their own flaws and problems to the table would be nothing more than a hindrance to their 'arrangement of convenience' that they've constructed. So of course until they redefine their own relationship, they're going to avoid meaningfully communicating on any unpleasant topics.
