To be fair, they have said that the ropers getting stronger has become an issue for them just farming them for sap while the ropers couldn't do anything to fight back. So it just came across as the power balance being equalized, there. It's not likely to stop, though.

Still trying to figure out how more slimes = pollutants, though; if they consume pollution to grow and/or reproduce, then it can only be a case of overpopulation and thus excess slime being considered a pollutant. Nothing else makes sense.

That's exactly why I said that I can't see how more slimes = pollutants, because more slimes mean that there are more consuming the pollutants lessening the amount per slime at worst, so it should be cleaner. It's only if there's some other factor involved with consuming pollution that it works, eg. slimes themselves being considered a pollutant.

in the WN its implied the one that's regularly culled is the overgrown one, not just slime in general, its one of the reason slime stays in D-rank, because the violent one (the overgrown) are regularly hunted
