I wonder what the Japanese connotations of "faerie" are.Mayuri is right, faerie is a really broad term and there's definitely evil fairies that don't look like little people at all. Good for her for standing her ground
It's a bit larger than that... They're a bit like aliens in that regard.I wonder what the Japanese connotations of "faerie" are.
My concept from various western sources is humanoid, maybe tiny, maybe with wings, and then morality wise they are either extremely nice or some level of inclined to fuck with you.
Maybe they have rules and they fuck with you if you don't follow them, maybe they fuck with you for funsies, maybe they don't understand or care about human concerns so there are serious consequences for you.
Yeah, I wasn't sure what the best way to translate it was. In my head I broke it down into 精神 (mind, soul) + 体 (form / substance), so like if we imagine we had "physical" souls that can be separated from the body.A little comment on the TL. In the raws, on page 4 Ema says 精神体, not 魂 (soul). I feel like this is an important distinction to make in this type of supernatural setting, no? Tbh I don't know what the proper English translation would be either. Maybe "consciousness"?
Anyway, I feel for Mayuri here.
