Riku has a hunch, which isn't the same as what happened here. The pool trip was justified by Lulumama being overprotective and wanting a boy to escort her daughter and An, which led to the Rikana couple being invited to "balance" the numbers. Lulu is a love-crazy menace who even Reina and Ema put a muzzle on to keep her from stirring a (to their eyes) non-existent pot. Misato is the first one to be told they're close and still talk and brought into the conversation.

On another note, is it just me, or does An tend to withdraw to the backline and cast support while leaving Shunpei to do all the frontline socializing with people?

Nice and wholesome chapter. As they live in a very small town, it's normal that they know each other. Misato remembers how Shunpei and An were when they were younger. It's very likely that he's happy to see that the two of them haven't changed over the years—except that maybe now they seem closer to each other—because he's always thought that An and Shunpei make a good couple.

Misato is an interesting character. I hope we'll see him again.

Rereading this, I realized that Shunpei is really the king of small talk.
Asking about the dog's name to put at ease, then offering the real question he wanted to ask, then filling the silence with An's school good points, that's brilliant way to have everyone in a good mood. He's really a decent person, not just the random cliché nice guy you'll find in most romcoms.

To be fair most of the people they've run into have been either from his school or started to interact with him first (like the grannies).
