This manga constantly has me thinking about stuff I've read about other manga like "the lack of drama is unrealistic" or "these kids are way too mature"

This manga comes across as realistic and also super-low-drama. If only 90% of the readers could have experienced such a chill school life...

the poor levels of reading comprehension of the youth today make me weep. if you have read all the chapters so far and thought there was gonna be a rival, you need to go back to 3rd grade and work on your reading skills.

Pretty sure Riku is aware, since he trusts Shunpei about his own relationship, plus he went to the pool with them, his gf and Luluca. This is more of a 5th wheel more than anything
He's even trying to offer advice to a stonewalling Shunpei. But that stonewalling is the difference here.

Rereading this, I realized that Shunpei is really the king of small talk.
Asking about the dog's name to put at ease, then offering the real question he wanted to ask, then filling the silence with An's school good points, that's brilliant way to have everyone in a good mood. He's really a decent person, not just the random cliché nice guy you'll find in most romcoms.
He usually knows what to do in these types of situations for example he encouraged Lulu to talk to An again by saying "she's not as far as you think". He's genuinely a decent fellow
