The breakup was mutual, but messy on both ends. Even if Gen did initially started it, with him being more distant, Kana didn't exactly take it in a mature way and said things she regretted, and both acknowledged that it was a shitty way to end things between them.

Relationships change, that's the point of dating. Refusing that change is basically refusing the relationship itself. She wanted him closer, and if Gen had reciprocated there is no telling whether she would have changed her plans forward. But there simply was no chance to, since Gen wasn't ready to change that relation.

Both people in the relationship knew that he’s dogshit as a boyfriend. He’s emotionally unavailable and doesn’t communicate. This is known established fact. She knows he doesn’t even have friends ffs. Hello? That’s all the red flags she’ll ever need. She just kept him around to have a jacked-AF sexfriend she could dump with as little guilt as possible when she left Japan.

All he did was live up to her low expectations. She knew it was a real stretch to even ask him to go. A normal well-adjusted person would have just declined or sucked in up and gone, but that’s not him and she knew it. Even when he agreed to go she could tell that the odds were pretty low he’d actually show up and that he’d agreed under duress to avoid a confrontation.

Likely he’s bailed on lots of other things in the past, which is why he didn’t start acting super apologetic about it when she was waiting for him. The definition of insanity is repeating the same thing and expecting a different result right? So who here’s crazy? Not Gen.

And no, there was ZERO chance that she’d stay in Japan, otherwise she was bullshitting the entire time she was talking about her dream. That meant more to her than anything and anyone. Her dream is her self worth, and because she thinks Gen has no dream he’s therefore worthless. Her noxious verbal diarrhea when she dumped him showed just how low her opinion of him really was all along anyway.

Why did HE get into the relationship if he couldn't be bothered to show any interest?
