This is indeed a manga which is based on a novel afaik. It got 11 Manga Vols and run from 2005 to 2010 in Japan. Later from 2009 to 2011 it got a full release in france.

OK, I've read 6 chapters and I'm quite pleased with this manga about growing up in 50's Japan. Grandma is totally awesome! Full marks to the scanlators for picking up this one, I hope you can keep it up. The number of subscribers for slice of life mangas like this is rarely very high, but if you can manage to post chapters reasonably frequently it should go up.
Also, nice touch to post the christmas chapter on christmas day.

While I think translation that is so bad it changes the story ought to be criticized this isn't that. Do it yourself or offer your help for proof reading if you don't like it

It does so more than you think. A lot of changes in subtleties can pile up. And even if it doesn't, it heavily disrupts the flow when reading.
