Tbh I'm still going with my theory that even the dragon was the previous Black Knight going berserk, since we don't explicitly see them both in the same panel this chapter.

If anything, this chapter kinda strengthens the theory, since the other swordswoman powering up with the mask as she claims they both have "the essence of a beast" may be more than just a figure of speech. So the black knight's cursed armor would be created from a dragon, and Shion/whatever her name is's mask is fused with the essence of a fenrir/oni/whatever it's supposed to be.

But yeah the Black Knight is def a corrupting power. Likely what that cliffhanger reveal after she used chain lightning was about. Overuse its special powers and you become a monster too.

It's possible the dragon was a manifestation of the Black Knight suit, however Chapter 7 pg 7 shows a Black Knight facing off against the dragon. Whether this is the previous one or Frost is still up in the air, I give you that, but I have a feeling that the dragon was a separate entity at the time. Violet is at the moment an unreliable narrator because there was some trauma that colored her perception of the events.

Probably the previous Dark Knight was overtaken by something evil and that’s why Frost had to step up.

I do wonder if the previous one was also a woman, like the one we see on the flashback in Ch.2 and Ch.4 (she’s probably called Celaria and that name makes me feel she’s related to Frost; Onee-chan if I can be bold enough to assume).

Or maybe someone stole the armor (a sibling, cousin, trusted acquaintance) and given they were not the rightful descendant, the person was corrupted by it.

We do know our current Knight didn’t bear bad intentions, but was clearly misinterpreted by the citizens.

Hold up! Is it just me or does the dragon’s head look REALLY similar to the Black Knight’s helmet? Y’all might be getting into something there…
Maybe even the presence of the dragon itself was what caused the other Black Knight to go berserk.

Well, not "probably", like I said earlier it's fairly obvious from genre conventions to figure that out. Evidence is on Chapter 5 pg 38 with the "infection" of whatever on Frost's shoulder that using the suit is deleterious to the user.

Edit: We also know from Chapter 4 pg 31 that the suit is manifested from the same crystals that cover the monsters so it makes sense the dragon and suit would share some semblance.
