The way I heard about this manga, it was supposed to be extremely offensive, truly revolting trash. Like pulling the rug underneath the MC and having the heroine NTR him or something.

In the end, I got a gigantic whiplash by way of an unnecessarily dark flashback focused on a unnecessary love rival that was introduced just a chapter prior.
Unnecessary is the key word here, all of that mess has zero impact on the actual story and vanishes as quickly as it appeared.

i was completely blindsided by that random entirely unnecessary graphic rape scene & honestly forgot what manga i was reading for a moment. it could be removed (and the whole thing with the student council president) and it wouldn't have even remotely changed the main plot. hell it could have just flashed back to her and kaji being childhood friends or him protecting her from ordinary bullies, and it wouldn't have given the readers horrendous tonal whiplash. holy shit
