It's like some people are blind and don't see how time and time again, when someone else uploads the translated chapters, it appears that they've had at least 11 chapters ready to upload (see Kichiku Eiyuu), but kept these behind the paywall for their patreons. It's fine to ask for support when you translate someone elses work "for free", just don't use the free platform and dirty tactics for your business in the first place.

I get being pessimistic/skeptical but holy crap, that Rinko has such a bad attitude. How did she become friends with such an outgoing gyaru like Narume?

but if you guys are stretched so thin that you're only prodded into releasing new chapters because another group showed up out of some weird sense of ownership or honor or whatever then that seems pretty counterproductive.

The thing is, if you look at the time between the Scyllazy release and this one, this isn't the case. They've obviously had this translated for a while, and as always have just been sitting on it until somebody else comes along and releases their TL, in the hopes it'll drive more people to their patreon. It's always the same pattern from these cunts.

Yup. It’s perfectly fine with me if someone else releases chapters. None of these ppl own rights to the manga so imo you can’t “steal” a series. Just don’t call them scumbags cause they have a release schedule

They don't have a schedule. As I said above, they sit on already translated chapters so that people will go to their patreon to get the latest chapters, then suddenly release them as soon as somebody "snipes" it. You agree that none of these people own the rights to the manga, so do you think calling them scumbags for that practice is justified? Seems pretty hypocritical to me if not.

More like, I would really prefer if they really tightened up which titles they work on by far, such that it's only wide enough that they can keep all up-to-date with the raws. If you look over the titles they translated, almost all of them haven't had updates in ages (and yet anyone trying to pick them up ends up showing they had a backlog waiting to mark their territory out of spite, pride and vainglory), and they really need to stop picking up new titles until they finished those.

Preferably, they should also post an open letter about which titles they release, to encourage other groups from picking up their slack.

Also the whole “sniping” concept on this site is stupid as shit. I don’t care who releases these chapters hell they both could at the same time. But ppl complaining about free chapter releases ain’t it

ppl are talking about the "marking of territory" actions they are doing to prevent anyone from translating the manga at all. It is a net-negative for the community that they released this chapter (less chapters ends up translated in the end as other group is scared off or lose motivation from poor behaviour in the community and a sense of reinventing wheels).

Agreed that Riko is so far an unlikeable character. She's being bullied by a jealous girl, but instead of confronting her bully, she's punching down on Otaruko. It's toxic af. Also why is he still "Otaku-kun," does Narume know his name by now?

What even is this revenge plan? Give Riko a makeover, make the jealous girl even more jealous... then what? She'll be too jealous to bully her or something? That's a crazy person's plan. I think, since Narume is capable of watching Riko get bullied, she should FILM it. Then publicly confront the bully girl and show the entire class the evidence, then if she keeps it up, shove her face in the toilets.

I am reminded of that greentext about a warhammer model painter trying out makeup and it just being a 1:1 of the same thing. (Foundation = Primer, Blush = Drybrush, Liner = Highlights, etc) and Applying the same principles to be really good at doing makeup.

The raws are currently up to, I think, 9.3 with the next slated chapter listed as 10.1.

Though that aside, yeah, GDS always been like this, deep inside i like to think they are just waiting for volumes for some series after doing the first chapter or split to mark them, like alot of the series they have are published censored or the original quality suck (comic-walker / nicovideo series, for example that Jack of All Trades one, GDS is using volume raws and rightdark nicovideo raws), and people here like to whine alot about censorship, volumes solve both the quality problem and the censorship, but waiting for volumes only make sense if it wasn't because they are still working on them as they have a few chapters in patreon, so they can release them at any time, if waiting for volumes was the main reason, specially because censorship, they can just release them censored then replace pages like alot of groups do, but since they don't even manage anything here and they let someone else do the uploads, not guaranteed they would even be willing to do that (censorship part doesn't apply to this serie tho)

They likely have a few series dropped because they are licensed and being simulpubed (and rips are out there, so not worth it), but they don't bother mentioning that anyway

I don't mind who release what, as long as they are consistent and is readable

I’m interested in seeing where this goes. It’s not crazy hard to believe that someone who is skilled in painting minis and such would have a better understanding of applying aesthetics to makeup and hair. It’s… almost certainly not actually that transferable of a skill, but I can suspend disbelief. It would help if he’s got an older or younger sister that he helps too, that would work.

Either way, the story is fluffy enough and the Mc isn’t just a perv like so many are in these types of stories. I’m totally here for this.

Well, she might behave like this due to being bullied. On the other hand, perhaps Gyaru-san had a li'l makeover between school changes, like manga often portray. Or they just were seat/project mates or something or childhood friends/neighbours and got to know each other that way. Or literally any way tbh.

Don't know why you're quoting my post because I never once called them scumbags. Hell, I was generally pretty complementary of their efforts for the most part.

But the point of the "sniping" debate is that most groups or translators work together either implicitly or explicitly with a sort of fair play/honor system setup of not stepping on others' toes when it comes to who's working on a series. If someone's doing a decent job and not being excessively slow then what point is there to swooping in and translating more chapters from a series they're working on? Why not find one of the scores and scores of series that people have abandoned or ignored and translate that to fill a gap? The community works best when everyone finds a hole to fill and through just a basic amount of consideration and respect that's pretty easy to maintain. But what Degen is doing is taking advantage of that. They rely on the fact that most groups won't come and poach their series in order to build up a catalog of titles that they exclusively translate while using patreon to monetize the popularity of some of their titles. But then when someone does decide to move into their territory, suddenly they show interest in releasing chapters for titles they had ignored, likely hoping to scare off the new group by making it appear as if they're interested again. But if Scyllazy stopped now and doesn't post another chapter, chances are we wouldn't see Degen touch this again for months.

Degen has a ton of titles to work on. And there are a bunch of titles out there that they could pick up instead of this if they have a slot to fill in their release schedule. There's no need to suddenly switch back onto a series they ignored for the better part of a year just because another group has decided to fill the hole they created.
