This.
The whole "Guys don't cry! Be a fucking man!" mentality is not about crying per se. It's about the fact that as a Man, a pillar and protector of your family, you are supposed to be strong-willed, dependable and not crumble at the first sight of problem(s). You fight, you die, but you die fucking standing.
Would appreciate if you shared point of view a bit more because I genuinely don't see how one is mutually exclusive from the other.
Being strong willed very means you're very determined to do something.
If you're dependable people can trust and/or rely on you.
Not crumbling at the first sight of problems, well that's self-explanatory and, please correct me if I'm wrong but... That's not much different than being strong willed, no?
So... Let's say you're at the funeral for a loved one. Does crying about their passing make you less dependable and/or less strong willed anymore?
Would crying tears of joy at the birth of your child make you less dependable and/or less longer strong willed?
Does crying tears of joy after discovering you're actually more valued and loved by people (perhaps by even more people than you realized) make you less dependable and/or less strong willed?
(I could go on but I think you get the point)
If so, then how exactly? Try as I might but I just don't understand or see it.
