I mean, it might not necessarily mean that he can't die at all, but that his life is at the will of his contracted spirits. So as long as they are entertained or whatever, he can't die, even if he wants to. Likewise, if they are bored of him, he can't live, even if he wants to.

This became interesting. Are you even alive if you cannot die? Is giving up "death" the same as giving up "life" since one makes no sense without the other? What changes when you go from living to immortal?

Well the elf's a guy iirc (at least according to the tl), so even if the elf has feelings for him, considering the dad's past, I assume the dad doesn't swing that way and wouldn't really have any interest in that kind of fulfillment before his death.
