IIRC... Gisele's race is long living, i think second only to high elves in this setting (this last part i may be misremembering), so when she says decades... it really was all that time it took her to become an apostle.

Rory may have had the "unluck" of being chosen too soon considering her too young looking body, but at the same time it had the blessing of not having to deal with so much shit as a mortal for long... but by another extra this series has, even as an apostle she still had to deal with a lot of shit still.
