Uh wtf? Two pilots were flying about trying to find the flame dragon just so they can play with it? And one of these guys had the balls to say “I was competing in earnest and that bastard spat out fire! That’s just not manly at all!”. Am I looking trained military personal or Moronic irresponsible teenagers? These bastards have a death wish if they go out and “play” with a dragon. If that dragon didn’t spew out fire and instead chomped at the jet who was driving towards it, the pilot would’ve been dead.

If anything, these imbeciles would’ve been disciplined for their recklessness and demoted. Not just get yelled at by their mechanic and told to run 3 laps around the track.

When I first read this, I thought they were gonna KILL the dragon with their jet missiles. The missile shape on the jets made me think their goal was to kill it which would've been a good idea. But nope, their there just to toy with a dragon. Guess we can’t have the unimportant side characters effortlessly defeat their biggest threat in the special region besides the apostles. Gotta have the loser otaku Itami and his Harem do it.

God damn this is frustrating. The JSDF can easily dispatch the flame dragon with a couple jets with their missiles, yet they don’t because then Itami won’t get his moment to shine again. I read the wiki a little, and apparently he kills the dragon with a bunch of C4s.....which are weaker then missiles and rockets and also has less armor penetration. Why couldn’t he just asked the Base to send jet fighters to his location after finding the Flame Dragon and have them deal with the dragon? Who knows?

>WW1 - World War I

I think this is the pinnacle of unnecessary explanation notes, that can be useful only for the most illiterate of all people.

Jeez, like, what the fuck.

@minikaiba Neither would giving a person with ptsd a rocket launcher and tell them to fire it to kill the dragon. Just send her to a rehabilitation center and it will be over with. Literally forcing the person with PTSD in a dangerous situation does not help the victim at all. You could even have the JSDF go kill the dragon, bring its head to Tuka and it will probably solve the problem.

Then again, from what was shown on the idiocy of the JSDF pilots this chapter, I think it would take a while for them to go kill it, Kek. No wonder the JSDF is looked down upon.

@BigRobot You are an example of a person who is going into something expecting a negative experience.

A. The Military isn't a group of super geniuses, they do stupid stuff. Hell, it was standard practice for certain navies to ram submarines and whatnot regardless of it would sink their own ship, because they decided it was worth it. They established the dragon was smart, so they probably understood that the dragon wouldn't let the jet hit it directly in the head should it try to bite

B. You are speaking from a point of no knowledge, C4 isn't a factory cut kind of explosive like in COD where it is just 3 bricks or whatever, Itami could be using 8 pounds for all we know, which is a large amount for a detonation. The manga has put heavy emphasis on how LIMITED their supplies are, they might not want to use their missiles unless absolutely necessarily. I already know how this all plays out, but it is very annoying to see you try and nitpick the future of the story without even knowing the fundamentals of your own argument.

@Lurac You are quite late with the response, as I long stopped reading this Manga. I was getting angrier and angrier as time went on, and so I had to take a break to cool off, not sure when it’s gonna end, but probably not awhile. I knew the story wasn’t going to improve with all the issues I have with it (some unjustified due to my mistakes, but others are completely justified), so I stopped there. If I ever come back to it, I might as well refrain from speaking until the last chapter, If that can keep people happy at least.

On a reread, it's heavily implied that they were there to scout the dragon for information, it wasn't just a joyride, though I guess this is a few years too late to the discussion lol

Why are the pilots alive.

Planes are pretty resitant to heat, but the dragon has been seen melting down metal with its fire breath.
