@Fwaifuxsenpai the JSDF use outdated Cold War era weapons and equipment. I highly doubt that in the 21st century, Cold War weapons are still expensive to buy. Itami Could’ve asked for the heat seeking missile for the mission he was supposed to go to, with the excuse being that bandits might come by with mountable Wyvern’s, or if the flame dragon comes back. He could’ve gotten the missile that way.
And the worst part? Later after this, Itami isn’t punished for any of his actions! He gets a large diamond that’s worth a lot of money, the JSDF can’t get rid of him because he’s super popular, and he receives a ton of other rewards and commandments. If this isn’t plot armor for the authors SI then I don’t know what else to call it. It happened before too, like for example, he runs off during training exercises just to go off and read manga. He disobeyed an order from a superior, yet was not disciplined or demoted.
Now for the Tuka part....So he thought “hmm, maybe if I give Tuka the rocket launcher so she herself can kill the flame dragon and get revenge for her father. Although...She does PTSD and doesn’t have training with it, so she could miss with it easily....AH who cares? I know she will kill it if I hold onto her and egg her on!” Over “Ok, let me, a professional soldier who training experience, kill the dragon with my Normal Rocket/Heat Seeking missile launcher. With this, hopefully Tuka will get over her trauma!”?
Now, which option do you think a normal soldier in RL would pick in Itami’s situation? Itami’s option? Or the other? Tough choice I must say. Also....he could’ve thought about this BEFORE facing the flame dragon, he would’ve planned for making Tuka firing the gun, not make the decision on the spot. What the hell was he thinking beforehand?
Edit: In chapter 94, one person uses a very expensive piece of equipment used by a NRBC Specialized unit made for radiation. What was that about heat-seeking missiles being too expensive to buy?
