Historically accurate, not bad! My criticism is, that I don't like the trope of "the bad guys are drawn to look really REALLY dumb" while the hero is always on model, it does a disservice to the message it does to convey about the revolution.

I mostly blame showa era mangas for constantly doing this. Later on, we do see some dockworkers drawn that way at first but end up siding with the revolution

according to this reddit post,"Mao: The Real Story" by Alexander Pantsov and Steven Levine may also be worth checking out, although i haven't read it.
