About the merch, the magazine probably has more control but i guess she does have some say? She is the one drawing the merch after all.
From what i understood ... what you don't like isn't basically fan culture? And that is really hard to avoid because ... you now, internet.
As to making characters relationship to more romantic/sexual ... That happens to any entertainment product. Fan culture at it's core ^^'' Shipping isn't something warped, it's just one way of people reacting to characters they like. And they will make porn of any ship. Rule #34 There is porn of it. No exceptions.
We all know Inuyasha and Kagome is the endgame, but Inuyasha x Kikyou is my OTP. And probably there is porn of them. Of any ship. Internet is just the internet.
But dude, no one is forcing Tsubaki-sensei to change anything. Except maybe her editor lol
For example, the pairing sakura and mikoshiba are kinda popular, mikoshiba and kashima too? Sakura and hori exists too, and while not that popular kashima and waka too. People are gonna ship regardless. And Sensei is still gonna do her own thing.
If she by any chance, for example, wants to make a change on the main pairing Nozaki and Sakura, well that would be her own decision.
On bleach, i was sure ichigo rukia would be endgame because they were the main pairing?? But the author didn't go that way. Not the fans making ya know. The one who holds the power are the authors.
