Do you guys prefer a general magic system, where there are elements and people can learn and choose which element to master, or a specialized magic system like JoJo or MHA, where every individual has some magic skills tailored for them?

I prefer the system like jojo or MHA or avatar. So you can mae conflict based on it.

definitely specialized, its easier to added depth for a character.

its back to @undeed problem about if the skill can learned by everyone why not everyone as powerful

Actually you can make conflict with it too, but maybe it's kinda bland.
Privilege, skill, etc.

...Getting back on topic, I had a comedy story idea where a girl and guy had a crush on one another without knowing the other's personality. After getting to know each other, they realize they hate the other one actually.
I mainly wanted to subvert those romcoms.
But then my notes devolved into romantic situations anyway :nyoron:

This is, like, 50% of all relationships. 'Oh, I have to impress the other person so they like me' x2 -> a relationship based on lies and increasing levels of resentment and hatred.

The really disappointing thing about this is the number of kids born into these relationships that get stuck in the middle and have to figure out how to navigate that. Would need at least two hands to count the number of acquaintances over the years that had kids with a partner they ended up absolutely loathing.

Kinda like that manga where rivalry of Heroine and MC in class that they genuinely start to hate each other but their granpa and gramma force them to lived together and be a lover.

Only the 50%? Given how many of the "crushes" are all about looks and first impressions... and the rest about meeting a minimum lifestyle level... a subverted romcom would be one about two friends that at some point decide to date, without any third party meddling or common troupes (like the childhood friend one).

Or set it up as 'two people pretend to be cool and popular, but are both secretly otaku; if they ever found out about each other they could have an amazing and happy relationship, but since they both try to keep up the facade, the relationship gradually dissolves'.

That reminds me a certain crossdressing series where two siblings have to graduate high school (an all-boys one and an all-girls one) without anyone noticing they're not what they look like.

Hey, this is fun.

I think it's different. Not the usual enemy to lover but lover to enemy.

Sauce please.

Talking about trope. I read some 'untrope' kinda thing? Like flipping the usual romance trope. Such as one bed turn to too many bed, he only love you turn to he only hate you, etc.

For once I'd like to read a "no way we get together" -title and it be true.:nyoron:

The fault of romance, especially stories that have the "who is she/he going to end up with", is that they are so predictable. From the very introduction you can already tell, who it's going to be by the end.
I suppose that is the attraction of the genre, but could it for once deal a curve ball?

When you've run out of ideas and you don't know what to do
a stalking horse~
out of nowhere a third wheel to make a mess
a stalking horse~
a deep history with the lead out of the blue
a stalking horse~
always introduce~
the stalking horse~

I think by now the sudden introduction of a third wheel is a universal law. You just one day wake up and it has appeared in your work and no matter what you do, it persists.

Huh, that could be an interesting premise for a story, an author trying to write an original story, but the Will of the Universe keeps enforcing generic tropes into it.
