He didn't. Standing stoically a receiving the beating without covering your face, crying or screaming is what i call tough. With his grandfather? He simply didn't act like a buttlicker. Dunno about you, but if my grandfather abandoned my mother, never visited my mothers grave i would also don't care much about him and that's exactly how he acted, uncaringly and to the point.
The worst his grandfather could do? Say "Piss off from my car" and that's that.
People are scared from unknown or when they definitely they stand to lose something. The worst is when you are scared of unknown i.e. basically a person doesn't hold any power over you but you are just scared.

Anyhow, a nice read. I like to mix chinese, korean and japanese comics. Reading only japanese can make you a cuck, reading only chinese can make ask you everyone for qualification or stating that they are courting death and as for korean, you can become a little over dramatic.
Koreans actually act like a middle point between japanese and chinese comics.

Mc is stoic, but can act human when occasions needs it. Story seems interesting, potential enemies look like real people not necessarily evil, simply pushing their interests. Seen only one bad evil guy and it was a teenager with fucked up mind, but that's in the range of expectations from teenagers.
No useless romances until chapter 22, meaning 1 girl at best will be his interest with maybe 1 arc involving her as a point of drama.
Some nice history lessons included about Korea.
