That sounds bad. Hope it'll get better again and the series doesn't jump the shark entirely. It'd suck hard to see this one come to the point where I'm just sitting there hoping for the arc (or series as a whole) to just end. Happened way too often already.

Can't say I'm overly surprised considering it's basically another Sun Wukong character. Though that is a rather boring way to handle a story. Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll change it up in the manga?

Avg syringe needle dimensions: .31 mm to 1.27 mm (outer); (inner) .16 mm to .84 mm Length: 5/16" to 1.5".... would anybody ever look at that as a weapon (especially during this type of feudal era - the eras of big swords, shields and other weapons)? Nah😅. When he finally does give a detailed explanation for the medical syringe, it's not like they're gonna even figure it "COULD be used to harm people". For poisons, airborne or edible are the known (and easier) ways. Sneaking up on someone and injecting them... that's a hassle, and it's not gonna even register with them as an option right off the bat. So that "weapon" question of hers was just off in sooo many ways😅.

Technically anything can be a weapon, even a teacup. So it does make sense to look at everything with a hint of caution. Especial since you can kill someone with a syringe filled with nothing but air.
And If you are just manufacturing the needle, then that in itself is a weapon. Just ask your local ninja.

I think monkey boy as well as the writers aren't grasping that all they are is a blacksmith. It's not their invention, they didn't gather the years and years of medical knowledge to train new doctors with, they aren't the doctors, and this list goes on and on. He basically wants "equal" but aren't themselves providing equally. For Soma to play his hand right, he needs to explain the amount of training and finances it takes to train a single doctor, as well as the time and resources it required to even get ALL that knowledge to begin with. If he wants the doctors, then he needs to sign a contract not only for the needles but for ALL the medical equpiment a hospital requires. He'll pay them for their work and provide the doctors and facilities. That means that 100% of the patent rights stay with Soma, all profits from equipment to medical treatments go to Soma, and all hospitals (no matter where they're constructed) are run, sanctioned and profited by Soma and the royal family. That's how you keep a blacksmith a blacksmith😉.

But if his people are the only ones who can make the devices, then his people have big leverage to be treated more equally. Souma can either give them doctors and training, which increases his soft power with the nation, or by force and lose good will. Souma isn't so proud to not take a win with easy conditions like that.

As a king, he needs to give the growth to his people first. In short, it establishes a pecking order for all future talks. This is a kingdom just starting off, not a democratic nation with years under its belt. What works for us today, wouldn't have been the best decision when we first started off as countries. There is a period of time, only a small limited window, that he can and should monopolize. By doing so, you establish your country as the frontrunner to these new ideas. New medicine, best schools for medicine, best country for new tech and innovation, you establish your country as the "where" and that stays in the minds of the people long into the future. At later dates, after ppl around the world already recognize your country as the present's innovators and the future's leaders is when you start feeding your knowledge to other countries and help build their own faculties and doctors. It's how you properly build allies around you as the center and ensures that you are always the "leader." Now, your ideas and decisions will always matter, no matter the situations you all face in the future together as allies. It's not about hoarding the knowledge for yourselves, but properly distributing them at the correct times so your country always benefits. By doing things like he did, Souma only guaranteed benefits for the "now." By doing things with correct timing, it guarantees benefits for the now and the later, and it does it all without stepping on anyone nor allowing animosity and the likes to set in.
