And history is full of even more instances where traitors were put to death. It was just more likely for you to survive if you were an important person to be above the peasantry (e.g. being an officer) but not high enough to be called a leader.
The reason why many officers from all sides in the Napoleonic time got to retain their posts, was because what they did (changing sides) wasn't necessarily considered treason. Keep in mind that this was the time where a German officer could start his career in Prussia, then accept a commission in France, then in Spain, then Russia or Sweden before returning back to Prussia and nobody would bat an eye.

A pardon and reinstatement after treason is the exception throughout human history and in many cases a very European thing.

@rrolo1 that where you wrong, this not shounen manga where you need to fight enemy of the week in next arc, the whole thing is ground work for next problem and rebuilding and major reform will always the main theme, this time the war happened since there enemy country that aiming his country and made mess in his country including become roadblock in his reform and building the country, in next few arc there hardly any major war like this except some part where he need to send army as reinforcement to help the country that attacked by swarm of monster
@HOOfan_1 like other already mentioned High Treason is rather big crime regardless the reason, even carla kinda help him in last war still that didnt help absolve the crime, thought her father might get some lessened punishment because his achievement and track record as general that dont make him complete scout free since it can become bad example for other noble and populace

@FYZdnt its not full democracy, unless im mistaken, in democracy citizen elect a ruler while in this story the nation is still kingdom with direct line of king as the successor. i have read the novel and some chapter referencing far-future event and still refer Soma family and his descendant as the royal family that govern the nation

@r4ttlesnake thats what isekai is for! joke aside, i kind of understand, altho as far as i read the novel, the MC didnt go full democracy, he just listen more to the people need but still in full control what getting a pass and not. dunno about latest volume tho if it changes or not

also if the people become content and relaxed, then the rebellion will lose support from masses, and thus lowering their chance to rebel or take any big action like coup.

@ikachan815 first half of volume 3 LN. or if you're searching the WN, just a chapter or 2 after project lorelei ch. iirc

You definitely misunderstood me. What I meant is that, after some singing and whatever, the issue of the centuries long grudge that fueled this war will be put to the side because the Empress will take center stage or whatever issue comes next. Even if our Isekai king does not want to occupy the mountains ( and if he occupies them , it is even worse ) , the fact is that there will still be a population that feels they were robbed out of their land next to his country and that will not go away fast or easily ... but we will most likely hear of anything more of that because the next item in the bucket list is already in sight ... and even as , if you say, there will be no war next, I strongly doubt that this issue will be adresssed again in any fashion.

It has nothing to do it being a shounen manga or whatever genre, just with the author not wanting to take things to their full conclusion because he didn't thought things to their logical outcome.

@rrolo1 ah that, about that issue like with what you said souma have no once any will to rule amidonia since its nothing but pain, as for how far author tried to solve it i will say it while not trying to put too much spoiler here. the populace chose them selves who the best rule for them, although being subtle there also some mention about what souma did to absolve the hatred that amidonian might have to the elfridenian. thought sure author kinda gloss it over to much there at last its not total gloss over and this singing show once again just groundwork for future and some water to douse little at grudge that smoldering and fanned by their previous rule. also aminodian actually care much what they can eat for today and tomorrow rather than past grudge at this point

The issue is that all of what you say will just postpone things, and maybe not even for long. Sure, now the Amidonians prefer to eat ... but in a generation or less ( maybe even a year or two ), they will remember the dead ones of the war, the fact they are still exiled in the mountains and that the Kingdom still helds their ancestral lands. It is as certain as the sunrise that they will get or elect a belicose leadership that will repeat the invasions ... and given that the Kingdom has enemies, they will surely not lack support for that ( in fact foreign forces might just exarcebate things to cause a distraction ).

In other words , our isekai king just dropped a ticking bomb to whoever rules the Kingdom in a decade or two, just to get the issue out of the way for now ... or atleast that is what would happen if this was a realistic scenario ( because isekai kings tend to be Karma houdinis and escape the consequences of their sortsightness :/ ).

The note on page 8 makes sense: no wonder the author had the main girl chop her hair away in that pointless, flimsy, self-destructive gesture.

@rrolo1 ah that what's your angle is, what i can say, you fear will not happened since certain "raccoon" princess make sure it will not happen be it van (capital of amidonia) or other city. divulge to much about what happen will be to much of spoiler so if you fine with it i will post it. thought dunno if you can accept what happen but i think that most "acceptable" solution thought questionably if it's "best" solution

Authors note to the Grand Chaos Empire being a Logical one can be superseded by Souma who was a realist. Logical ones are easy to read by high intelligence staff given enough parameters for them to deduce what they're thinking.

For Souma who was a Realist, he can adapt both Logical and Emotional one, and grab both points strong points.

I remember in the LN it's says that Souma is Realist while Maria is Idealist. That's why both of them can't go hand in together, well that's what I remembered from reading the LN a long time ago.
