if the shitty former king actually felt bad about what happened he wouldn't have framed MC for it after MC saved the entire kingdom, he's just a corrupt loser doing PR for the royal family, he didn't even apologize just said he was dumb.
"uhm ackshully he would be happy about being killed, if he had known he would have sacrificed himself" author really trying so damn hard to justify what he did...
Kinda feels like a chapter went missing, weird pacing.
And yeah, the (human) king thing...Pretty inexcusable, some really weird arse writing there.
IMO, not to excuse the king, but it was the Evegne (the father and the family that sent the troops after the MC) and their faction who are the real scum. As described in this chapter, they’re playing politics with the entire disaster.
The king himself would have lost a lot of clout in the aftermath so, perhaps he had to accede to the demands of this faction. I kind of assumed this because action-wise the king gave our MC plenty of ways to get away (the obvious summon that implied our MC should flee, the case with the empty contract after the MC showed up anyway, and the seal to stop the noble’s personal troops when they were sicced at the MC).
All in all, I think what’s making me (and perhaps others) not liking the king, is that king was being a parent and a (usual scummy) politician that made his selfish choices given the situation and the getting off mostly scot free.
In terms of writing, I’d say I can see a real human (esp. our typical politicians) making the kind of opportunistic choices that he made, then “stepping down to take responsibilities” (read: getting away with minimal consequences).
Heck, maybe the author was reading the news when he wrote this character.
