But if I see a person about to kill a dog, I’m would kill that person to protect that animal, and not feel very guilty, even though they were raised to think that dogs were livestock I have my own morality, and I don’t really care about how other people were raised and indoctrinated to think a certain way.

This inherent point that you keep bringing up, other people think it’s OK, means literally nothing to anyone, but you. There’s so many religions and cultures that do horrible things that I think are monstrous, because people believe in them doesn’t mean I’m gonna respect that.

IMO, for a long time, cousins may have been considered good marriage partners, close enough for the families to be aware of each others' circumstances and social standing while far enough to avoid genetic issues and other icky problems. Don't have anything to back that up, but I think it's a fair possibility.

Heck, in this day and age, how many of you here know your own third cousins? Yet, I suppose back in the day when all of a person's relatives would have been all located in a single town or the next town over, they most likely would have known and marriage with them may just be better than a random somebody. It'd be like marrying the child of your parents' best friend. Who knows?
