what's so special about this venom? why couldn't it just absorb it and become immune to it like all the other attacks? why would being devoured by it kill it if burning it into charcoal dust didn't kill it before? if it can regen from the smallest speck you're telling me not so much as a drop of blood or speck of skin was shaken off and unaffected by the venom?

Who would have thought he had the perfect card to reverse the situation?

If I understand it correctly, the Orochi develops resistance against elemental attacks, but attacks like physical ones get through. "Venom" appears to be a non-elemental erosion attack, which picks the target apart molecule by molecule. Disintegration, in effect, and if it seeks out everything down to the smallest speck, there's a likelihood that its nature is like a nanomite attack.

There's an old 2008 movie starring Keanu Reeves, the remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still, where the surface of the Earth was being destroyed by a flood of nanomachines. I think that Light's final attack was like that.

This flashback arc should have showned earlier, like in Chapter 2 instead of now. What a waste of time.
Sadly if you'd do that on the Japanese market, this manga/LN wouldn't have seen a chapter 3.

From a business standpoint this point of the story is where it is for a reason. Of course pacing wise it's absolutely off and misplaced.

The only excuse that makes sense pacing wise, is that here we already see just how big his potential is and therefore the first few teases of revenge wouldn't have worked the way they did.

While in meta knowledge we know he'll probably wipe the floor with his enemies, but in universe it was a "surprise" just how strong and versatile his ability is.

This is stupid, why didn't he start with that venom card then? Also this backflash really should have been at the start to the series cause it's pointless here. We know there is no stakes and that he gets to lv9999.
I think he was trying to test his hypothesis about physical attacks still working (or whatever type of attack venom is). I'm not sure why it's shown here, but other commentators think it's because in japan the book wouldn't sell well if he started with the progression as the more exciting part is the revenge.

But also about there being no stakes wouldn't that hold true if the training arc started at the start too as it states in the title he is level 9999, and also MC just dies the story just ends?

Stakes wise though, the level could be referencing the theoretical max so while the series has that name it might be referencing what he's aiming for. I feel like putting this part of the story here would also possibly lead to loss of readership but with Japans readers it's like a crap shoot anyways. They have made some very awful series ultra popular and let great ones die early.

true, it is kinda boring, and I would like it if they just continue the revenge.

So as Orochi grows stronger, does it mean it's free EXP growth? I guess it could explain how he grew to 9999 in a short time.

That is a "huge" translation error, the card MC used is "UR 粘菌細胞" which should be translate as "Slime Mold"
This should explains a lot

I think he didn't lead off with it cause, like he said, it was the only one of its kind he'd drawn, while the rest of the attacks were still quite powerful, but he'd also drawn multiple so they were easier to use up.
