How many people could actually take on the mantle of shonen manga protagonists and think on their feet when their town is suddenly being attacked by a 50-meter-tall supernatural monster? If anything, Chiho is the bizarre one here. That was a damn good idea on her part.

this is not a shounen manga where the MC will power up due to the power of friendship or love or some shit like that and defeat a supernatural giant being so take your bitching elsewhere! This is Oku Hiroya's style and his stuff are amazing most of the time and this applies for this one too. It's interesting and good!

I want her as the main protagonist. That girl is a badass.
He's just a shitty whiny manipulative useless baby.
By the way, in most cases when in dire danger, people tend to get into a fight or flight mentality. Your brain is full of adrenaline, to keep you moving and not end up slowed by your emotions.
That's why you often see people break down in tears after heroic acts, as soon as their adrenaline levels get back to normal.
That actually happened to me, during a car crash, where I was helping people without realising my arm was broken. I cried and panicked like a bitch AFTER the facts.
The only case where you don't get that boost is when you're a baby and still supposed to be in the care and arms of your mother.
So yeah, he's unrealistic and clearly a not-so-discreet way the mangaka found to insult his reader base.
Just kill him, that could even be a motivation for her... and I don't want to see her in another abusive relationship (him emotionally manipulating her by crying if he doesn't get what he wants... yep... like a baby)
