This area of the story is really important in driving home the point that, owing to his abandonment by his mother as a young child, Yuuta is completely oblivious to how he's seen by women and utterly insensitive in response. Even in the books, he currently still has a very long way to go to approach anything like normal behavior even with his (admittedly quite awkward in her own right) girlfriend; here, the extent of his cluelessness is just beginning to occur to him as something to be managed and living simply as family with Saki is a safe way to start.
