Is it normal to have some random thought of your loved one suddenly dying or is it just me?
Very normal. For some people to overthink

I once had a colleague at night shift confessing to a group of us she sometimes went hysterical thinking about names for kids she did not yet have (she was neither attached nor married at the time)

Rereading this one.
Yeah, I can explain why it's happens.
You are used to a routine of the other person answering, thus if the person didn't answer you can start fearing because you are not there and that person it's so important that it's one of (if not the most) important person in your life.
I am saying from experience lol, I had those kind of experiences now and then

People seem to not notice it, but passers by were talking about some criminals still on the loose there.
So yes, it's very reasonable situation to be suddenly worried.

It's not just that she did not answer, there's something about a criminal on the loose too.

It's very natural to be panicked at this situation, but just running back home, without forcing to contact her over and over again on the way home, was the best possible solution at the moment.
