The thing that's EXTRA stupid about the school arc is that there is no indication that he's just going for funsies; it seems like he really thinks that attending the highest ranked Wizard School is the next step to living his best "slow life" as a reincarnated great sage.

Commoner discrimination would also immediately set aside because his power isn't common sense to begin with, a common wizard school would look into that immediately. That's what wizards do

This is just idiotic. I understand that the author needs to put antagonists in front of the protagonist in order for there to be catharsis—they showed that with his previous employer and that guy's son—but the smiley way he did the latter and his ignorance of the former just isn't satisfying, and the power disparity between the MC and the headmaster—the MC has enough magical power to destroy the kingdom probably and the headmaster probably is politically connected but that doesn't matter if there's no kingdom for his political connections to do anything with—makes it jarring how the MC reacts.
