It's cute... but the age gap is super iffy.

A quick and painless execution for the secondary love interest. It was done in such a subdued way, I hardly noticed it. Some of the most interesting parts of this chapter were the ones about the society. I'm kind of interested just how much worldbuilding there will be done.
Lastly the happiest moment was on the extra page, which said that the collar is going to be put away. That was always the part which weirded me out. Especially since Mels collar was so bulky and such a strong reminder of the master/slave relationship. Well, almost all is good now and I sincerely hope that there won't be any unncessary drama with family/outsiders trying to meddle.

This is an onee/loli manga. The age gap is its theme. Plus you're 16 chapters in, you should've noticed that by now. What I found much iffyer was the rather clear indication that they're supposed to be master/slave (as I already outlined)

It's not master and slave relationship, kids her age were already working and sometimes in much worse conditions.
Shes an orphan and a non-human to boot but the state still funded her upbringing (on an extremely high level I have to add) and got her light labor as a workplace.
She also had the right to refuse. How is this anywhere close to being a slave?

It's much more distressing that she should be more of a guardian to her in terms of age and psychological age difference but she still accepts her as a lover.

@Equilibrium, your points are valid but it still is presented as an indentured service which often wasn't much better than slavery at many times. At best the beastkin are second class citizens if even that. Judging by the incidents where the protag was asked who her master by strangers indicates that any existence outside of state run facilities without some human acting in that role is not allow in their culture. This means that we have a system, while not slavery and theoretically allows for some discretion by beastkin in choosing who they serve, is ripe for abuse. Choosing to leave the service of a human would likely relegate the beastkin to becoming incarcerated in some sort of state facility until a new master can be selected and they might see that as a worse situation.

While we haven't been shown if a beastkins mature further or if they are naturally neotenous (that is they retain child-like features into adulthood) it feels like the protag is still pretty young so I agree that their relationship development is a little weirding

Sadly we got a lot of real life examples of human trafficking and sex slavery to go off on. (And as far as I know we got no demi-humans or second class citizens)
It doesn't really help that the author really didn't do much of a world building here, we can't even be sure if it's actually a state run orphanage or some bourgeois pedigreed maid cat training facility funded by big buck people.
Also as you said we haven't seen any mature beastkins. But it's evident that they got basic rights and the police actively acts against the kind of people the strangers represented.
Slavery is a really harsh word that can't be used here.

In general there's a lot of dubious stuff in and underpinning this manga. I love it. But there you go; here we are living in late capitalism and we're screwed up and our fetishes are what they are. The generation that grows up after the revolution comes will hopefully be much less fucked up and will have far more boring wholesome desires. ?

Yes, furry communities have been proven time and time again to shield some of the most vile people on the planet, and they're usually the most lauded and vocal members of the community.
