yeah thats what im thinking, so either theyre full or half sisters (oh god no)
or some sick baby swapping happened out of revenge or pettiness or some deal
my crazy theory is its the second, and thats why the father is so creepy with grace, it reminds him of dead rubys mom

also in this theory, i feel like mrs watson played some role in separation btw the father and ruby’s mom who im assuming is the blonde pictured in the flashback and thats why he hates her. but i have no idea why she’d refer ruby to a maid job at her own father’s household tho
Lets be real, if Ruby actually left it wouldnt take Grace more than a week until she would begin having sex with some new girl, since thats what she has been doing before doing it with Ruby… Only thing I hate about this series is the fact that Grace is basically a slut…

going by this theory
mrs watson probably referred ruby to this job either to meet with grace or her father to reveal the truth or maybe even take grace back from the creepy father. Mrs watson probably had a really close relationship with the mom, and wants grace and doesnt really care about ruby (which makes sense if shes his kid)

My theory is that the father was obsessed with Ruby's mom and adopted Grace because she looked just like her.

Ok he’s definitely her dad. Ruby’s father’s identity is unknown and this guy has the same hair and eye color and we know his type is blondes. What color is ruby’s mother’s hair? Blonde.
There’s a theory called genetic sexual attraction. People tend to be attracted to those who are genetically similar to them. There was a study where men were asked to pick from three photos of women which one they found the most attractive. The catch is one of the photos would be photoshopped to look more like themselves. They almost always picked the one that looked like them. If you have children with someone who shares your genes then more of your DNA will be passed on since some of your DNA will make it into your children through your partner. You share 50% of your genes with your siblings and so you can expect their children to have 25% of your DNA. Add that on top of the 50% you are contributing and any children you have with your sibling would have 75% of your DNA instead of the usual 50%.
Of course this would be inbreeding, which has its downsides so it would make the most sense to avoid inbreeding with people too closely related to you like siblings, but not with more distant relatives like cousins which have far fewer complications. This is where something called the westermark effects comes into play. Humans negatively sexually imprint on those we grew up with, because there’s a high chance they could be your siblings. This also works if you aren’t related, adoptive siblings are still often grossed out by the idea of having sex with each other. In the Israeli kibbutz system they’ve run into the problem that their communally raised children don’t want to marry each other when they grow up because of the westermark effect.
However what if you don’t grow up with your close relatives? Then you won’t negatively sexually imprint on them, and because they’re genetically very similar to you they will seem very attractive. There are tons of stories of children put up for adoption reuniting with their biological families and suddenly being extremely attracted to them and sometimes even entering relationships. I’m not sure if this applies to lesbians though.
