A kindred bro across the ocean. They're predicting a much longer plotline though, so Fumi X Shinobu could happen for a time and at some point Sakura comes back into the picture and they at the very least reconcile the relationship and then either move on from each other or by some contrived plot get back together. The pacing and time skip could affect things but I think this type of resolution will take way too many chapters to come to a satisfying conclusion.
