It doesn't. Getting together with Fumi 6 months later after Sakura abandoned Shinobu makes all the difference. At most Sakura would feel that she was the one that pushed Shinobu into Fumi's arms. For no damn reason.
Besides, KA needs to give Shinobu a solid win to keep the readers happy. If you have 80% of your customers clamoring for Shinobu and Fumi, she has to give them Shinobu and Fumi. And ironically, it's the only way she has to rehabilitate Sakura without making Shinobu a cuck protag.

Don't think a specific number for the time skip is given but it feels closer to 2~3 months than anything. Both MC's thought they were being abandoned ironically. Sakura already does and still thinks Shinobu is all over Fumi, which now he might as we'll soon see. I understand readers being happy and sales are paramount of course, but if Airi had a grander vision and is able to convince the publishers, then I say go for whatever story they wanted to tell and just take everyone for a ride and let them decide in the end if it was worth it. Way I see it Shinobu already got the "win" even if he stopped here. Bro got a 3 part appetizer before the main course, he's plenty full even if he asks for the bill here.

My biggest problem is that ShiFumi the thing that caused the whole mess to go down the way it did. Don't think KA has the ability to untangle that level of drama. In the end though ShiFumi is doing nothing wrong, and has every right to but I feel like it's bad writing.

I'm sure they've held at least 1 cordial meeting or two by now. No clue how these go but if I was a weekly serializing mangaka that just dropped twist that pissed off 90% of my readers and my publisher phoned me up for a meeting, my first instinct would be to explain to them my overarching vision for the story and why I wrote in that twist barring this being an impulsive decision between my incompetent editor and myself. Then try to work out an agreement out from there and maybe adjust the pacing a bit here and there to speed up the recovery while maintaining the original story destination.

Sakura almost felled for the fuccbastard in the Island. Readers were relatively quiet. Sakura gave the licks to the director and Toppy. Readers were relatively quiet. Fuccboi fingerblasted her until squirt. Readers were relatively quiet.

But as soon as fuccboi dunked his dick, the torches and the pitchforks came out.

Nah, if Shinobu doesn't go all the way, the Japanese government will have to declare martial law in Akihabara...
