I guess people got excited about it's initial premise (which coud've been considered nothing more than affectionate parody), and then became unhappy about genre shift. I've seen that discussion before and the only thing i can say is that complaining about "normie" happy endings is just lazy (not to mention it can be applied to vast amount of critically acclaimed titles that are out there).
And i write that as someone who very much enjoys the so called "misery porn" (sic).
