More power to the ones who seem to enjoy this sort of thing, but I just don't get tragedy. Life is shitty enough without "heart-wrenching" stories about loss or what have you to make you even more depressed. Give me a cliche happy ending any day of the week.
There's a certain type of beauty tragedy stories have, such as this one.
The fact that so much can go wrong but we can still find the bittersweet message the story is trying to tell and move forward is what makes a good tragedy. The character is thrust down into despair but, even after the story's final page is flipped, will still have the resolve to move forward. Things will go wrong, there will be tears shed, and you will experience some pain. But in the end, you will always be able to move forward. You can always have resolve to continue towards your uncertain future. I think that's the beauty in tragedies. (But I will admit, I'm a sucker for happy endings too.)
