If you think about it, it’s like that universe’s version of a noble peacock pageantry. Since this is a “civil dispute” between nobles in times of peace, they can’t just blast the other side to smithereens and cause unnecessary chaos…so they had to posture this way. If Wendelin isn’t there, i reckon the war would’ve grinded out way longer due to lack of decisive firepower, despite Breithilde’s military advantage.

I mean, you can see that Wendelin’s not entirely happy bout this war dragging on either…reckon he’s gonna let off some steam.

Hard not to get frustrated with the shitty pacing. I feel that for manga like this, they really should follow Heavy Knight's example and convert to a weekly release. It's a necessary part of the novel but adapted to manga makes it horribly draggy.

What can they do about it? It's the king who dictated nobles can't fight for real, so it's these stupid theatrics, where even a total loser noble with pitiful forces can stall for days and weeks. Now the opponent doesn't even really bother and sends some old doofus to the negotiations instead, with no real power to make decisions, to boot. Meanwhile the winning side can't do anything about it but play their part in the stupidity. If the winning part did try to put their superior force to use, the king would probably consider it a treason.

Like I said a few chapters ago, Wendelin should just lock the opposing side in chains, especially the officers and such. It might not look proper considering traditions, but with nobody killed or seriously wounded, could anyone really do anything about it? If Lord Philip still didn't react while that Godwin fool was forced to personally swing a shovel to build a road under a whip, then Wendelin might as well march on and put Philip's city under siege. Nobody enters or leaves. No fighting, but total isolation ruining the economy and starving the people.

But then again, I suspect he won't need to go that far. At the very least he should have just refused to negotiate with a powerless underling and started the jousts again. He's actually bowing down to Philip by allowing Godwin to waste his time.

This entire has been completely without stakes. Just the MC effortlessly winning a series of meaningless battles against faceless, nameless goons for reasons even he does not care about. How is the reader supposed to take this seriously when even the characters don't?
