From what they mentioned about "The Test" I'm thinking from a previous theory that it's meant to EXPOSE MC or something to JUSTIFY the killing and likely FREE the Stepsister from suspicion of killing her Stepfather or something of the like! My Theories is with ALL the Possessions! MC might not be the ORIGINAL OWNER OF HIS OWN BODY, and that the TRUE Final Villain will be HIMSELF, as in the TRUE OWNER of MC body as it turns out his abilities are WAY more overpowered then they APPEAR to be! Just giving Context to my little THEORIES

The abilities resides in the body.. If you turned into soul you lose your abilities.. That's literally what happen to Nirasawa and Ririka.. Just re-read the manga again.. They can't do shit.. Maybe they can talk with someone who had soul abilities like the telepath girl or the MC but they are just soul..

When they put in the different body they will lose the previous power and had to use the power that resides in the body.. like Yamada and Akemi..

His ability is actually overpower.. But it resides in that body.. If the your theory is true I don't think he can get it back unless whoever resides in that body move him in..

And then again if he is not really the real owner of the body why he can't remember it? Did that soul just lost his original memory? But Yamada and Akemi still maintain their memories tough..
