Here's the thing: I don't like hating shitty characters when they've had a bad time in their lives as well. Kaoru's mom tried to be a mom, but she got busy and nobody could take care of Kaoru. Tried to fix the problem but didn't work. Disliking and hating are two different things.

I don't like any characters in this entire story except for the two friends of Kaoru and Hasumi. They're decent.

Nope, but at the end of chapter 26, Kaoru’s phone starts ringing, and “Mom” shows up on the screen. Hasumi takes the phone and buries it in the elderly couple’s yard.

It's clear that she was very needy because she was just never at home and yet... Whatever happens, I can't stand parents who don't take responsibility for their children.
