I finally realized what this manga lacked after 8 chapters. It lacks
depth. Weight. Everything just seems to happen. Characters are just scumbags because yes, each and every single one of them. That (surprisingly) goes for the main character as well. He is just hellbent in protecting Kyue, but not out of friendship or any deep bond, more so like a stuffed toy that helped him cope with his trauma. Even their transformation, which was supposed to be something unique, unheard off, just doesn't seem to hold any special meaning for when or why it's done. I kinda wish it got remade from scratch, because the story got me hooked and the emptiness (?) devoured my enthusiasm to keep reading.
it does improve later on tho, if only a little bit.

The author doesn't seem to understand why things happen, why things matter, what the ideas behind anything is. Compared to Jujutsu Kaisen, it lacks any and all depth. JJK isn't particularly insanely deep, but it has strong characterization and interesting ideas driving the narrative. Like you said, things just happen. That's how I've felt so far too.
People are just evil, events just occur, things just appear. There doesn't seem to be a reason most of the time. Or if there is a reason it's only revealed after events take place. It feels more like a "You thought this was random bullshit, but it was actually random bullshit with a hokey explanation tacked on after".
Honestly wish they would remake it from scratch as well. Hopefully this time with some sort of driving idea to propel the narrative besides "JJK and Chainsaw Man did it"
The pacing sucks, drawings are bad when it matters, it's cliché af.
I don't want to mention the quality of the story and develop the critique further, when this manga is already that bad.
All indicators point to this being the author's first major serialization, and it shows. However, the important thing is to look at the potential. For a new talent, the elements are there for something much better than it currently is. Doing the story and much (if not all) of the art yourself means that your weekly crunch is brutal.
This guy is grinding the old fashioned way. Let him cook. Look forward to some really good stuff from Nekono in about 10 years or so, provided he doesn't collapse from the effort first.
Why do things just happen and then no value is being placed apon it, author just throws events around having no explanation and just moves on, and i feel like there not really alot of an importance the characters and i dont get the power system
this is good, its something fresh and for some reason since past few days I'm getting more interested in these onmyouji type spiritual power type manga , well I guess its cuz I have read too much magic manga and now I'm bored with them , mc definitely has a cool power hidden inside him with how his eyes changed shape that one time , well waiting for new chs
