Other than just switching to Twitch, there are a few ways to try and get a different stream server on YouTube, like changing the latency setting or getting a new stream key. There's no manual selection like on Twitch though so you're still at Google's mercy at the end of the day, and some things like the stream key will mean a new stream URL which is unavoidably a momentum killer for viewership. As for how the Power of Friendship factors in, I imagine it's as simple as working together to find a solution instead of just panicking and having a meltdown.
