Edit: Original post below. They are making progress. Slowly. Frustrating that it's taking so long. And that MC fails to contradict her when she voices that her body is monstrous.

OP:
The problem with this sort of thing is that 90% of the tension is "will they fix their communication this time". So as soon as that finally happens the drama/humor of the story goes away, and then readers find it less interesting and leave.

So instead it drives viewers away slowly as they get fed up with the interminable lack of resolution. (But 1) Readers will stay on for a while "Frustration viewers" in hope that it will be fixed. 2) Even those readers may come back later ("Is is fixed yet??") Also, I'm looking at this from a western POV; Japanese seem to have a higher regard for interminable frustration.)

Alternatives:
  • "You and I are Polar Opposites." Main couple gets together in the very first episode, the other couples take longer to build.
  • "Sometimes even reality is a lie." They're not desperately in love. They both slowly move to it, and their hesitation is understandable as they're afraid that the other side won't reciprocate and afraid of breaking a strong relationship. Then they do confess, and story continues to move on as their relationship continues to develop.

Here's my main source of frustration: After bath/exposure scene, MC could have and should have at least said, "Onee-san, I don't find your body un-attractive at all." Then mangaka could leave it at that (and let the realization slowly cook over time), or talk some more (though that would resolve more of the issue).

Instead we get: one step back, one step forward. Step back: MC fails to correct her feelings about her body when he absolutely should have. Step forward: they end up sleeping next to each like a married couple.

Also this is a work where the MC is seemingly the normal one, and the girl is kind of hikkimori, so shouldn't he better at reading the situation. He knows she has a massive complex, but he constantly tells her stuff or phrases stuff in a way that will only worsen the situation. Like dude tell her you don't want to share the bath because you find her cute or something, don't just run away as a spaz.
bro isn't the normal one, none of them are the normal one. he also has his massive complexes, and we have been watching their massive complexes interact for 26 chapters, but the comments all start throwing a fit once his rears its head. like, where have yall even been?
What is "porgy?"
it's a fish

Yes I couldn't agree more. I hope in the future, our male MC doesn't keep letting her put herself down so much. It will be harder for her to not let him put himself down himself so much because most of his thoughts are internal while her thoughts about herself she says out loud. I'm still enjoying the story but like you said in your other post it can be frustrating.
