I secretly feel like the author forgot he started this whole series with that, is now embarrassed by it and is deliberately drawing this whole series out long enough for people to forget that fact.

The romcom is a new girl character and the misunderstandings caused by being the closet while trying to have a relationship. Which I was actually hoping for with Shirota excelling with this new girlfriend help and eventually destroying Takamine's perfect image.

At least they've set a confession timing which should pretty much end the series and let it either have a sequel where they don't have the pretence of not being a couple or even better this art is unshackled from this premise or MC. I can only dream of that day, Kendo Girl will do for now .

I feel like a decent editor alone could've done a lot to stop this series starting off in such a horrific way. I don't know if the culture is just that different, the reaction in universe is unconvincing enough. If you start him indebted in a less extreme way, or maybe just being so nice he ends up doing it anyway you could later down the line shift the dynamic slowly without it seeming so bizarre.

A solid writer with this art could be amazing, I think even action could work really well, anytime Takamine is doing any physical activity or even posing is so striking. Hell even them hiding in the corner in this chapter is panelled and posed so well. 🙏

Have him struggling financially and she pays him to be her closet. He can't say no because he needs the money. Lots of room for awkwardness and conflicts... he doesn't want to confess and potentially lose his benefactor. She doesn't want him to get a part time job because she'd lose her panty slave. etc.

Or he's about to get kicked out of school for something else, and she comes to his rescue.

Just anything but accusing him of sexual assault. It's bad enough that she has a cold, firm personality... but the false accusation just makes her unforgivable.

Every now and then I check what people are thinking of this series because I was interested by the time travel aspect but found just trash.
People say that she is just a tsundere, but look at "Chapter 54" and how she mistreats her friend because she is unable to understand social cues, whenever I bother actually checking a chapter I wonder if the author isn't autistic and unable to understand social cues himself.
61 chapters.....so many series that are cut short at 19, 30, 50 and this one even got an anime. What a travesty.
I don't think the author understand what a massime landmine she is and I pray he marries someone just like this.

I don't think they're embarrassed by it.

I think they straight up don't understand it themselves and have accidentally written depth into the character interactions that isn't supposed to be there.

For the audience we can interpret their difficulty in establishing something concrete between themselves as his confidence / trust being shattered by that intro and just going hard at following what she wants, not wanting to overstep anything out of fear that she can invoke such consequences on a whim and his lesser social status doesn't have a chance in hell in combating it.

...Whereas the author's actual intentions are probably just the simple romcom "nah, they can't get together until the very end so I need wacky ways to keep the dommy mommy status quo while giving crumbs of progress here and there".
