I guess it would make sense for Kumi not wanting to get through something like that again with her partner. But I think is a little late in the game for Ippo going after anyone else. Maybe that actually inspires Ippo to get better at boxing so he doesn't get hurt. Which shoo be totally doable considering his knockout power.

He's an in-boxer. An in-boxer that doesn't take hits is almost unthinkable unless they finish the fight in one round every time.

The manga's been hammering the whole "you can't get to the world champ level unless you're a monster willing to put it above everything else" over and over as a literal line Ippo has to cross. A breakup pretty much frees Ippo completely.

It'll likely be temporary though, Kumi's been in the manga too long for George to not commit. Mashiba will likely patch things up.

I still hope we get Ippo's former classmate that has only seen Ippo lose, but is still a fan of him. That's the type of support our boy needs to challenge the world again.
And while I don't like Kumi, she deserves a guy that won't worry her to death

Everything we saw during the evaluations is consistent with the kind of low-grade CTE that can be caught in an autopsy but not an MRI. After his literal 2 in-universe years of weight training, his body is probably the second most stacked in the whole series behind only Takamura, but if his brain "recovers" enough to win a match with Ricardo that'd be unrealistic writing at this stage. Like they can't just have him return to boxing at full health without even discovering what was wrong, you know?

Only way it'd make sense is if he gets so fast that he dodges EVERY blow to the head.

Sendo is next I guess. I really feel for Kumi as she's probably between a rock and a hard place right now with her feelings for Ippo. It's not like Ippo's mother who can just ignore his matches, if she decides to build a life with him she would fear that one day he will end up like her brother or worse. I thought that Ippo would have been working on defense during his coaching period as I thought that was what Morikawa was leading us to but it seems like he may still be a person who dives in head first without regard to defense which is sad and would be a waste of this period away from boxing. At this point I just want to know the end game for Ippo. Hopefully it doesn't end up like a certain classic boxing manga. Thanks for the chapter!!!
